High density grazing in mid January. We'll see how long we can go before feeding hay. The goal is to not use any hay.
Left side before. Right side after. In reality the right side was yesterday's area to graze and the left side is where the cattle are grazing today. The cattle are moving to the left.
Some varieties of grass stay green despite freezing weather while others go dormant until spring. The photo above was just took here in December. This grass is what we call our stockpile for winter. The cows prefer to graze stockpiled grass especially when still green over hay. If your good you can graze stockpiled grass straight through winter without using any hay.
Trying out new method for moving cattle through two separate enclosed paddocks until we get our permanent fencing set up. The new system is working very well and is saving me a lot of time.
Thank you to everyone for all your support and encouragement. I wish everyone a happy & Healthy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely, Michael Owner We grew our own hay this year to help feed the cattle in the winter and because the grass got away from us a bit. Preferably we would be able to graze fast enough to keep the grass green. We need some more permanent fencing first. Hopefully this winter will be a little warmer then last year.
